Grace Baptist Academy Update

On August 27 – 31, three of the highlights of the year for the Academy and Bible College took place:  sports fest, Bible week and Buwan ng Wika all in one week.  The event officially started on August 28 as the 27th was a holiday.

Four teams – Blue Pirates, Red Knights, Green Dragons and Yellow Pythons – crowded and brought noise everywhere in the school grounds for four days.  Everyone was excited not just to compete but particularly to have fun.  It was a week full of merriment and games.  Free from the pressure of school and work, and just a time of fellowship inside God’s family circle.  What a week it was for everyone!

The games played on Thursday were all about the Bible since it was Bible Day.  It was also the chess and scrabble competition and the winners are the following:

Levels

Chess

Scrabble

College

Mark Esplanada

Frances Mae Arbolante

High Schl

Marvin Palaganas

Clyde Yvonne Clima

High Elem

Jade Berguia

Ashley Riz Advincula

Lower Elem

Lyj Cabanag

Hannah Osorio

Friday night was most exciting as it was the night when everyone would know the results of hard work for the past four days.  With the good attitude and the right spirit displayed, everyone was surely a winner, but like other competitions, only one team got the prize, which the Green Dragons excitedly accepted as they were declared the first place winner!

On the same night, the groups presented a short play, folk dance and folk songs which the audience enjoyed.  Though tired from the weeklong activities everyone went home with a smile.

An Unforgettable Field Trip

On October 2, we, the higher elementary and high school awardees went on a field trip to the Wet & Wild Resort in Alang-alang, Leyte.

We left the school premises about 8:00 a.m. and arrived at the resort an hour later.  The resort has swings, see-saws, monkey bars, fish ponds teeming with water lilies and nice cottages. Ducks and fishes swim in the pond behind the cottages.

First, we took a shower then dived into the pool.  Some students brought life buoys.  When the other students saw them, they were also eager to get one.

The slide with water pouring down on it was rather steep.  Everyone, especially the teachers, slid down to the pool excitedly.  At first, Ma’am Joy was afraid so she just sat at the top of the slide until students began to line up behind her so she let them all slide first then finally she made it down the pool screaming.  Ma’am Monette was next.  Like Ma’am Joy, it took her sometime before she made it down the pool.

We shared our food with everyone then went around the place and chatted about pleasant things.  Since it was a warm day, we plunged into the pool again.

The majority of the students didn’t want to get out of the pool but we had to leave at 2:00 p.m.  Before leaving, we gaily watched a man feed the fishes.  Then we all headed home with pleasant memories.

A night of music and awards

It was November 16, 2007, the Musical Literary Competition and Awards Night for the second quarter.  Since 5:00 p.m., many of the students had already arrived to put on their makeup, arrange their costumes, and to rehearse a little for their presentation.  Some felt nervous, others were very excited while a few had both

feelings.  When the clock struck 6:00 p.m., all of the students were in their assigned places and looked real nice with their colorful and unique costumes representing various people in Bible history.
The first group presented From Pit to Palace: a story about Joseph and his brothers. It was followed by the story From Darkness to Light about the life of Apostle Paul.  The third group acted out the story of Ruth and Boaz entitled Redeemed by Love. The last group depicted the story of Joshua entitled A Mission of Faith

After each group presentation, the teachers gave out the awards for the honor students, enhancement awards and other awards.  A total of 152 awards were given away this night which means more students had worked hard this 2nd quarter of the year compared to that of last year.  Also, the Bible College students received awards for the semester, which is quite remarkable because in the previous years the awards were given annually.

The awarding of the different groups for the musical literary competition was the most interesting part of the program.  Ma’am Liza Dave, the principal, said this was the first time she had a hard time judging a contest.  Redeemed by Love won 1st place garnering the best in script and best musical drama awards.  The 2nd place was a tie between From Pit to Palace which won the best performer and the best in props awards and A Mission of Faith for grabbing the best in costume award. From Darkness to Light was 3rd place.  Each group did its best to present a realistic portrayal of the lives of early Christians.

Indeed it was a night to remember.  Congratulations to everyone!
