Academy Reaches its silver year! |
||
Now on its 25th year of operation, Grace Baptist Academy is getting bigger and better. The Lord has graciously blessed the school with the highest number of enrollees since its foundation with a present population of 155 students. To make adjustments for its numerical growth, the school made refurbishments by air-conditioning its three learning centers for elementary and high school students and two for Kiddie Kollege. The biggest learning center (grades 2 to 5) was temporarily excluded due to insufficient transformer capacity but will also be air-conditioned as soon as the new transformer is installed. A lot of activities are lined up as the Academy celebrates its silver anniversary. Sportsfest-cum-Linggo ng Wika This August 19-22, the students had their sports fest. Unlike previous sports fests, the cheers this time centered on the 25th anniversary of the school and were chanted on the opening day, the contents of which were all about the school, its system, its teachers, its students and a comparison of the past with the present. Also, the groups provided their own tee shirts which bore their team and school logos with the number 25 to stand for the school’s 25th year. The students were grouped into four namely Red Olympians led by Matthan Osorio, Blue Griffins by Timothy Jon Bañez, Yellow Phoenix by Kestrel Kite Baiño, and Green Academians by Clyde Yvonne Clima. The games for the Kiddie College were held separately and they were grouped into three teams: Blue Ninjas, Red Knights and the Maroon Rangers. The games were fun and made everyone hoarse since it stirred up the students to shout loudly. The Linggo ng Wika presentations on Friday evening highlighted the weeklong activities. The groups presented the following themes: the coming of Magellan-Rizal-Katipunan; Japan covering Asia - the coming of General Douglas MacArthur; Liberation Period - the Lowering of the Philippine flag; and the declaration of independence - the present time. The first quarter awarding followed right after the presentations. Then the winners for the whole competition were declared: the Red Olympians and the Red Knights. Surely, it was the Night for the Reds! Next upcoming activity of the school is Thanksgiving Sunday on September 28 with Pastor Howard Wynn, founder of the Academy, as its special speaker. Students from 1984-2008 are expected to be present that night. Exciting presentations and activities await everyone, even non-graduates of the school. Meanwhile, the teachers attended a three-day Educators Convention on August 25-27 in Pasay City as the School of Tomorrow (SOT) celebrates its 30th year. The school is a member of the SOT system. |
